RE-GLUEING THE BRIDGE

I forgot to ask CC what this weird instrument actually is?

It's built like a cross between an oud & a bouzouki.

If you have a close look at the "frets" you'll see they're set every which way. The bridge was only properly glued across a quarter of its area...

The Greek gentleman who owns it has a recording session booked for tomorrow - good luck with that!
