Pit Stop

One of the high points of my trip to India was when we spotted an elaborately painted elephant ambling down the highway in the midst of three lanes of teeming traffic. Our bus driver pulled over to the side of the road so we could take photos.

As we watched this magnificent animal coming closer, the mahout suddenly turned the elephant broadside to the traffic, and stopped. The reason soon became clear: it was time for a "potty break".

I love the astonished over-the-shoulder look of the bicyclist who narrowly escaped an unpleasant surprise!
