Had a great day walking round Rough Tor - an amazing landscape of huge stone monuments- a bit like giant versions of those pebble towers people build on the beach, accessed through bronze aged settlement. The kids had a brilliant time jumping over the rocks as did the dogs. We stopped for a picnic on the top and as we did a huge dragonfly was flitting about. Google tells me it is a gold ringed dragonfly and the largest species of dragonfly in the UK. It dropped down into the bracken so I went to see if I could get a snap on my phone only to discover it was devouring a large bumble bee. Poor bee!. I got an amazing video of it too. It probably took it about twenty minutes to chow through the whole thing. Nature is amazing but brutal.
On the way home we stopped at Crackington Haven for tea and cake. The beach was closed to dogs but to be honest they were knackered so we just walked up the cliff a bit for the view. Mike decided to take the scenic route home which involved a narrow twisty coast road with 1 in 3 hairpin bends which Mike attempted in second gear then had to change down on the middle of the bend. It was a bit heart stopping and I'm glad we didn't meet anyone coming the other way.
Lots of extras today.
