cleaning up the town

Every weekday morning I walk through the town just as it's beginning to come to life.  And more often than not, I come across this man picking up rubbish, clearing the bins and so on.  If I don't happen to see him, it's usually because he's down some side street - or I'm a few minutes late.

People stop to chat to him - usually the older ones out walking their dogs or on their way to the Co-op before it gets too busy.

I'm impressed by the civic pride I've seen in my new home town.  Is this normal?  Perhaps living for 30 odd years on an estate surrounded by green space in Milton Keynes given me a false sense of what town living is like.

It's also market day today; the extra shows the first arrival.
