Monarda Fistulosa...

...or wild bergamot or wild monarda. There are huge masses of these near the house that are coming into bloom. When they start to open, at the stage of the one pictured above, they always remind me of fireworks bursting in air.  Yesterday after Tom had his bone biopsy done, he went to the day hospital to receive another unit of blood. Before the blood was even started his temperature went up to 102.1. They re-checked it with a different thermometer and got a reading of 101.6. After contacting the doctor, three blood cultures were done, a chest x-ray was done and they checked to make sure he didn't have a bladder infection. They kept him in the hospital overnight, since he has almost no immune system and they didn't want to take any chances. He was transfused with 2 units of blood during the night, as well as some IV antibiotics. He felt better this morning except for being tired. He had to stay most of today to make sure his temperature stayed down, which it did, so we finally got home around 5:30 pm. I can't say enough about the wonderful doctor he has, and the great care he's received from the nursing staff. His nurse today was Colleen--that was my mother's name--so I took it as a good sign! Glad to have him back at home, and I'm thinking it'll be an early night!  Thanks to Anni for hosting FlowerFriday and to Miranda for hosting WildFlowerWeek. Hope you all have a grand weekend! :))
