Nunburnholme Church
I was able to get into Nunburnholme Church yesterday for a look inside. There is a well preserved Anglo Saxon/Norse cross shaft, dating from before AD 900 standing in pride of place at the base of the tower. Churches have all been closed due to the pandemic and it seems that work was on-going getting the place ready for worship again.
I noticed that the inscription on the altar screen was, "Safe Return of her Husband ******* from the war 1939-1945". Not sure that I've seen someone dedicate a memorial to the safe return of their loved one from a war - it is normally a memorial to their memory
