Waapiti

Growing up, I called Elk, Waapiti, which is actually the First Nations name for this animal from the deer family. It means white as they have white rumps.

Not far from me is an elk farm (which makes me want to set them all free!).  They are always so covered with flies that it makes me shudder thinking how miserable summer is for them.  This mama has triplets and was separated from the rest of the herd by the fence.

They were also so sweet to watch!
