Buried treasure
Well well well. Look what I found inside an old pillowcase on the loft. There were loads of old photos, birth cetrificates, marraige certificates and death certificates too. This however intrigued me! First in the main photo is an advert appealing for money to help build this chapel, then the receipt for a donation of two shillings I think! then the Certificate of proof that the donors name will be entered in this Golden Book.
Should I go to Liverpool and check? The donor was my great grandmother Anne Currie who lived all her life in South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, who had never ever been near Liverpool! Yet at the grand old age of 82 this old girl read the advert for the appeal and took the time to donate here very hard earned shillings.!
Advertising worked, even away back then.
I just googled it & heres a wee excerpt
Inscribed with over 500,000 cherished names, our Golden Book is a unique lasting tribute which effectively connects your loved ones to the continuing story of our Cathedral.
For the past fifty years donors have been asking for remembrance for themselves, members of their families and friends, and we’ve now amassed some 17 completed volumes of the Golden Book. Donors tell us this is a special, and significant way of remembering those dear to them, while also contributing to our Cathedral’s upkeep. Each donor receives a numbered certificate and those whose names are entered in the book are included in the intention of a mass offered in the Cathedral on the first Friday of every month at 5.15pm. For each entry an offering of £10.00 is requested.
So I should visit there someday and look for my great grannie's name
