Got thrown off a train...
...for the first time in about twenty years. Monthly commuter ticket expired yesterday, new ticket hadn't been "activated" in the app. No point arguing for leniency, arguing that the yet-to-be-activated ticket had already been paid for, arguing that for months on end I've been a good and obedient citizen, ticket proudly inspected twice a day between Monday to Friday with the rare exception of national holidays.
Rules are rules etc. Reminds me of the Hebrew terms "rosh gadol, rosh katan", about the ability or, in this case, unwillingness of an unusually pedantic ticket inspector to see the bigger picture.
(rosh katan n. an attitude of avoiding responsibility, of extreme self-interest, or of strict adherence to rules to the point of obstruction or absurdity; a person with such an attitude; in British English, a jobsworth. The Hebrew is ראש קטן ‘small head.’ The term seems to have arisen in the Israeli military.)
