The Mixed Argus
Petiver got himself very confused with the Common Blue, identifying the male as the Blew Argus and the female as a different species which he called the Mixed Argus. You can see why. A tremendous walk up to Blackcap and on to Ashcombe Bottom this morning in which I recorded twenty species, including several White Admiral, Silver-washed Fritillary and Dark Green Fritillary, but the main spectacle was the hundreds of Chalkhill Blue.
