King's Manor

This building has suffered from a number of alterations!  It is now used by the University of York's Department of Archaeology (quite apt by the look of the place).
It was initially the home for the Abbot of St Mary's Abbey in 1270! Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries and visited the house in 1541 following extensive building work.  The building was then used for civil administrations before the York School for the Blind moved in at the start of the 19th century.  The school moved out in 1958 and the University of York took over the lease shortly afterwards.
