We survived!

We somehow thought it a good idea to climb Snowdon today ( minus the hubby)  We got up at 5am and set off,  all enthusiastically.  Backpacks, food and  a change of clothes all packed.
We chose the Snowdon Ranger path.  It was just stone paths for about an hour then we started the ascent up the mountain on a small path.
It was tiring and we had a few tears from my daughter but we carried on up n up. About three hours into the climb , the weather suddenly changed. We had gone from wearing t shirts to trying to put waterproof coats on in a terrible gale. Then the rain came.
Thick fog,   howling wind and hard rain hit us relentlessly.
We talked about turning back. Two people came along and told us we were half an hour away from the summit.
We struggled on , kids crying. We finally reached the summit and we  all had to hold each other so we didn't get blown off .
Cant say any of us were elated at reaching the summit but we sure wanted to get down. I didn't care if I had to slide all the way. It took us four hours to reach the top and two to get down. My son kept crying because I kept slipping, everything was soaking wet, despite the waterproof bags and coats. We got in the car and drove home, miserable,  tired and soaked.  We showered, left the biggest pile of wet clothes near the washer and went to bed.
The next day everyone, aching like mad and I cant walk, knees have swollen.  I've spent most of the day in bed, the kids are helping to look after me.
Do we feel proud of our efforts at conquering Snowdon?
No we feel lucky to have got off there in one piece. It was pure torture and horrendous.  We take many walks as a family but that was a killer, never to be done again.
