Soaked!
After a fairly quick flight from B.A. up to Puerto Iguazzu, we braved leaving the luggage with a taxi driver who was happy to wait 6 hours while we explored Iguassu (translated as ´Big Water´) National Park.
We walked the various trails to see some of the most amazing scenery on earth, first viewing the falls from the top. The power was immense with the vapour rising up, and the breeze showered us which was refreshing in the heat. My nerves however kicked in as I knew it wasn´t long before we´d be in a raft at the bottom of the falls.
Making our way to the dock, we snapped croc´s, catfish and racoons (which we later found out to be coatis´from the same family). Lifejackets on and valuables in a big green waterproof bag, we boarded the boat not knowing what to expect. Oh my god, it was the most amazing experience as we sped into the waterfall leaving us gasping for breath and drenched right through. We didn´t stay wet for long as the boat sped down the rapids with sun on our faces, before we got on a truck for a short jungle safari looking for various wildlife including spiders the size of your hand hanging in golden webs, skimming your head!
Wow, what a day. We didn´t think it could get much better (the taxi driver was still there) until we crossed the border into Brazil and arrived at our hotel, a sumptuous ´pink palace´with a tower overlooking the falls. We were lucky to catch sunset before embarking on an 8 course Brazilian bbq! Yum! I´m one lucky girl.
