Life's a Beach, Whitstable
Life can also be a B*tch. Yesterday as thoroughly expected I was advised by my wonderful (yeah right!) employers that I will now be made redundant from the 31st July after nearly 13 years. I was informed after a further 121 with a senior manager and my line manager (neither of whom I have worked for directly and one of whom I have only ever met over zoom) that my services were no longer required despite never having had one bad appraisal and having been a loyal, trustworthy, hard working, diligent and skilled employee (all ironically confirmed by the very same appraisals). The whole process has felt as though my employers have just being going through the motions, that the decision had already been made and they have made me jump through hoops (providing evidence of why I should keep my job) just so they could cover their own backsides.
To add injury to insult they also provided incorrect details of my redundancy settlement which I am pretty sure they would not have corrected if I had not pointed it out. You couldn't make it up!
As a distraction and to get it out of my mind me and my brother took a trip out to Whitstable. Once we had arrived and parked the car we headed straight to the Old Neptune pub, which sits right on the beach (where the main picture was taken) and enjoyed a pint looking out to sea. On the way back along the shoreline I spotted the colourful step (entitled Stairway to Heaven), with a little graphic of the Old Neptune, which allows you to climb over a wooden groyne on the shingle beach to reach the pub.
I had a great day and enjoyed getting away from all thoughts of now being in the ranks of the suddenly unemployed. Onwards and upwards to better things!
