After the bushfires

This afternoon, feeling the need to escape beyond the radius of the few kilometres we've been living within for months, we drove for half an hour to our nearest national park, Morton NP. Hundreds of thousands of hectares within this national park were burnt out in the January bushfires. As the crow flies the fire came within about 15kms of our home and we evacuated one very scary night. We were fine and thankfully the fire didn't get much closer than that.

Today we drove to Echo Point within the park. The top photo shows the view from Echo Point. With those deep gullies you can see why the firefighters can't get near the fire to combat it when it's raging.

The middle photos show the aftermath of the fire passing through. Some trees were completely hollowed out.

The bottom photo shows that the picnic/barbeque shelter survived but there is now a sign attached to it telling people that only seven people at a time are allowed in it because of Covid-19.

2020! What a year!
