An Uninvited Guest
There was an uninvited guest at breakfast this morning when out of the corner of my eye I saw something scuttling across the room. It was such a relief to see it was only a spider and not a mouse even if it was quite the biggest arachnid I have seen in these parts. I know it is a pygmy compared to its cousins in Australia but nevertheless it is a giant in this house. Quicker than greased lightning I had the tumbler and the paper ready and the monster was dim enough not to escape until it was safely entombed in the tumbler and on safari on the other side of the railings. Now had it been a mouse............... there is no chair or table high enough....
It did seem to be the kind of day lending itself to having wildlife in the wrong place at the wrong time when I got a phone call telling me because pigeons had got though an open window in Contini’s restaurant in George Street, my friend and I would have to have our coffee outside at a table on the Street. The weather was warm and dry so there was actually no problem with that arrangement and we had an enjoyable catch-up on 4 month’s news. We were even joined for a while by daughter#3 who happened to be cycling past.
The sun appeared at noon and made for a pleasant afternoon for ‘we three widows’ to sit on the patio, having afternoon tea and watching the world go by on the other side of the railings. Some days I speak to no one and other days are an embarrassment of riches socially. Today was that day.
