Grünberg
Day 1 Iceland trip 2020
So all is revealed. We set off north, through Germany towards Hirtshals in Denmark. Packed the car, that is of course our 24 year old Range Rover, that we bought for our First Iceland trip in 2011. We went again in 2014, and did a quick winter trip by plane in 2018. these trips were great fun with the kids, but this time is just the two of us.
I really thought we would just spend the summer in Switzerland this year. But suddenly we could book the Iceland ferry, you usually have to book at least 6 months in Advance. Mr S is between jobs and I still have plenty of holidays left. We will be away for almost 1 month.
It was very hot packing the car, and we were off by about 2pm. The intention was to drive about 500km, the next day another 500, then another 500. I just looked for a cheap hotel on the way, preferably in a pretty little German town. Very lucky to find Sporthotel in Grünberg, a great hotel, under 100€ for 2 with breakfast. It was still 30 deg C when we arrived at 7pm. We walked through the forest back into town, found a nice Greek restaurant in the market square. Had another good walk around the town, lots of amazing old houses and a very old tower, the back to the hotel in the dark!
