Kestrel
We have a Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) with its young on the farm. Everyday one can hear the "begging to be fed" call as the parent rushes round trying to find a morsel to feed it with. This is the young one on the wire.
Kestrels eat small mammals and birds and some insects and worms. They can see in ultra violet - for instance when a vole leaves a trail of urine behind the bird can notice it glowing in ultra violet!
Went for a walk across the farm down to the little village in the valley and back with GT. We watched the kestrels and saw a hare running towards us only to dart at right angles out of sight.
