As a major link between the capital cities of England and Scotland, the Flying Scotsman has historically been a powerful, long and heavy train.
The current incarnation, a Mallard class 91 locomotive, must be the least romantic of a long line of famous engines.
This one, on time and heading for London Kings Cross was photographed at Wakefield Westgate Station.
I suppose it beats the Northern Rail service to Huddersfield which is little more than a bus with train wheels.
