I went to the incredible Mammoth exhibition at the A.T.C. in Osaka today. Truly awe inspiring to see the perfectly preserved remains of the Yukagir mammoth and steppe bison, along with the remains of the 42,000 year old Batagaika Crater horse. Also, some incredible footage of these finds being discovered. I've put some examples to the horsemammothdelivery of the mammoth and the steppe bison discoveries here. The steppe bison video also includes more of the horse and mammoth discoveries.

To watch scientists peeling back the pink flesh of a 42,000 year old mammoth and take samples of its blood - that's just astonishing. Even more jaw astonishing is the fact that scientists at Osaka's Kindai University are currently working on using those samples to clone a living mammoth, and they are tantalisingly close to realising that goal. How amazing is that!

My mum would have loved this exhibition, being a huge fan of Jean M. Auel’s Clan Of The Cave Bear saga.
