Strohblumen

... was the first name I knew for this helichrysum, or 'strawflower', when they were growing in my friend's garden in a Palatinate village. I was about 15 at the time, and we're still good friends. And it remains the first name that comes to mind when I see the flowers. This year I've grown some from seed and am well pleased with the few successes. (See my Extra for a small red one.)
