Royal event in Brentford

This is a panel on the newly painted Brentford Bridge, commemorating the history of Brentford. In 1840 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were married and spent their honeymoon at Windsor Castle. On the way they passed through Brentford and the town decided to mark this in a big way, with two 'triumphal arches' erected over the road, free lunch for school children, patriotic songs and crowds cheering as the royal carriage passed. From the historical records, a good time seems to have been had by all.
