Tachinid flies rule it seems!
This beauty who decided to sit on my finger is Tachina fera, a large and impressive Tacinid fly that is quite common in these parts. The larvae of this species are parasites of lepidoptera larvae. I do like his feet and the fact that he is huge compared to the tiny parasitic wasp who also decided to hitch a ride on my finger.
In my extras I have another Tachinid fly Gymnosoma rotundatum or Ladybird fly, which is much smaller and rarer being found mostly in Surrey, Sussex and kent. This one is parasitic of shield bugs.
Grateful today that I live in West Sussex!
