Langton Valley
We had booked a stay at the Inn at Whitewell to coincide with my retirement. But then lockdown came, the Inn closed, I put my retirement back ....... best laid plans and all that,
So, we visited Bowland today, and walked along the Langton Valley. It’s a good walk, but today - not quiet. We had to pause at the beginning to allow a helicopter to lift off in front of us (extra) and for the next three hours the sound of rotor blades was ever present. Two helicopters kept flying in to collect ballast to transport higher up to some place on the moors. Much of the surrounding land is owned by United Utilities, the Langton Intake supplies water to a significant part of Lancashire (the adjoining Whitewell estate is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster. The Duchy is held by the Crown). So I guess this is essential infrastructure work of some sort.
On our return home we passed the Inn. Lots of cars, so it’s open for business, and popular. We’re not going till it feels safe to do so, which isn’t anytime soon.
