Ingleton granite quarries (disused)
Dan went to a party in Dent, last night, so late this morning I drove over to pick him up. I've taken yesterday, today, and tomorrow off work so I was in no hurry to get back home and Dan likes a drive out, too, so we headed east out of Dent, taking the road through Cowgill and Stone House before picking up the road that goes south from Hawes to Ribblehead.
Just north of the viaduct the road was crammed with parked cars: mostly people walking up Ingleborough, I guess. There was a van there selling hot drinks so we stopped and Dan treated us both to a coffee before we carried on down towards Ingleton.
At Chapel-le-Dale you can turn off the main road and take the Roman Road down to Ingleton. It's a wonderful single-track road that runs below the Twisleton Scars across land that is populated only by sheep and the occasional farm house. I'd love to run along it.
It was Dan who spotted the old granite quarries that feature, albeit at a distance, in my photo, today. You can just make out the main road running above them, making the quarries invisible from the usual route between Ingleton and Ribblehead. This view is a small perk of the road less travelled!
