Team Paper Wasp

Wasps are fascinating creatures, at least they are to me. Team Paper Wasp made it clear, right from the beginning, that protecting and taking care of their offspring must always take precedence!  Many members of the hive, especially the younger ones, also thought it important to compete in the 2020 AOGs, since Wasps already suffer from bad press. The Hive decided that they could do both! Sooo...Top image: Walter and Winifred compete in the 'Hive Guarding Duet'. They were the spectators' and judges' Favorites and flew off with a well deserved Gold Medal! Bottom photo: Team Hive Care. ( I took twelve shots of this group, and while the team members moved about taking care of the brand-new offsprings' needs, the Team's Captain, Windsor (top), kept his eye on me. He never moved! It was eerie! I have seen this behavior in other Wasp nests that I've photographed. It seems that there's always one 'sentinel or guard'! )
