Enlightenment, Scottish style

The light can be remarkable in this place once described as the Athens of the north. At this time of year, however, light can be hard to come by.

I noticed with glee that it was still light at 5 pm today, surely a harbinger of good things to come. I was on my way to the University of Edinburgh and was taken by this entranceway - so enchanting, so welcoming, so enlightening. Seemed apt at this home of the Scottish Enlightenment.

Now the dark has come again, reminding me that this is also home to Jekyll and Hyde, Inspector Rebus and Trainspotting. The dark and the light - always close companions.
