Passing Axbridge on the old Strawberry Line

I stood up on the bank by the old Axbridge Station and railway line this afternoon looking South. This would have been the lovely peaceful view as you passed by Axbridge although the Cheddar reservoir wasn't there then. There are two mounds in the centre of the picture; the further one to the right is Glastonbury Tor, which I think is a fantastic horizon - the closer you get to it the more beautiful it is!
The line used to run from Yatton, south of Bristol, through Cheddar to Wells, and joined up with the East Somerset Railway then onwards from there...
Officially The Cheddar Valley Line, it opened in 1869 and closed in 1963 but was always known as The Strawberry Line because of the massive volume of famous locally-grown strawberries that it carried to be sent off to market.

You can come and walk most of it now - more conservation happening all the time, and it's lovely. So much to see. Look it up if you like walking and cycling and come on down!
