A very windy walk!!!!

After a very good breakfast in the Victoria Hotel, our intention was to do an eight mile walk Craster to Beadnell, which is along the coastal path. The wind was very strong, and it was decided that we would be better reversing the walk, so that the wind was at our back. A great decision, as that was a mighty strong wind. At times we were getting blown off the path.

On the plus side, however, it made for some very dramatic coastal scenery and huge waves. We passed Dunstanburgh Castle; we in fact had lunch sheltering as best we could in the ruins. The day was bright however, and once we got used to being buffeted about, we rather enjoyed the walk, although the wind really tired us out. You can see the swell of the waves in my picture, it was very dramatic!

After the walk we had a little time at Seahouses, but we didn't see much of it as we were in need of refreshments, and we spent most of our time in the pub or the coffee shop, depending on what was our pleasure.

Back to Bamburgh, and after a short rest I went out around the village. I visited the church to see the memorial to Grace Darling, the local girl who is famous for rescuing some fishermen, you will all know her story I should imagine. Then I walked down to the beach hoping to get a reflective photo of Bamburgh Castle, with the castle reflected in the wet sand as the tide went out. However, the light was not good and there was no reflection today.

Back to the hotel and changed in time for dinner, and then we were entertained by a super duo, with Northumbrian Pipes and a violin. They sang traditional north eastern songs and played some lovely music.

And so to bed; just managed to climb the stairs, and we were in the attic, a long way up. A beautiful family room though.
