Strange Mark

I was taking photos around the Hadstock church, and just noticed for the first time this very carefully inscribed mark on one of the corner buttresses. The odd angle and perspective makes it look huge compared to the door on the right, but in fact, it's small, as compared to the normal sized bricks on the left. 

Any ideas? Just a stonemason's mark?
