The Village Shop

This week's homework for my course on photojournalism is to produce a photo-story on how local shops are faring against the competition from supermarkets. So I spent the morning in our village shop and Post Office. It's the throbbing heart of the village, which is miles from the nearest town and only has 2 buses a week.

Stepping into the village shop is like stepping into an episode of "The Archers" (a long-running British radio "soap" about the everyday life of country folk). It's where you catch up on all the gossip!

Sarah, a farmer's wife, was the volunteer on the till this morning. Apart from hot Cornish pasties, she will sell you tickets for the Valentine's Fish & Chips in the village hall, but sadly can't sell you tickets for the village pantomime as it's sold out :-)
