You Know my Name (Look up the Number)

Continuing yesterday’s theme of finally getting around to doing jobs that have been promised for a while. This one probably wins the prize because, a mere seventeen years after we moved here, I actually put up a sign to assist others in finding our house!
It’s not quite as bad as it sounds - there was a number on the front door when we moved in but we moved the door to the side of the house (to extend the kitchen) after about four years of living here. By that time, everyone knew where we lived and you could still see the number from the road - just not very clearly!
It was only with the rise in online shopping and ordering during lockdown that we realised some delivery drivers were having trouble finding the correct house. Our daily walk took us past several houses with snazzy new acrylic / aluminium signs that detailed the street name as well as the house number. Seemed to be just what we needed but a quick search on eBay revealed there were several thousand to choose from! After a few minutes research it was obvious there were a lot of cheap and nasty examples out there, but by paying a little bit extra, something more substantial could be acquired and still have change from a tenner.
This one arrived within three days of ordering, is very nicely made and had all the necessary fixings and instructions included. Putting it up was simplicity itself once I’d actually found a flat enough bit of wall!
At least now, when giving directions to strangers as to how to get to our house, I need only give the address rather than a detailed set of directions and descriptions.
