Himalayan Balsam
Spent the morning with a small group of WoL volunteers attacking a huge stand of Himalayan Balsam on the bank of the river, just below West Bowling Green St. Although it seemed like very slow work, we made quite a bit of progress. There were also large patches of brambles and stinging nettles (seemingly the only other plants that can compete with the HB) and my forearms were a mass of nettle stings by the time we finished. I was wearing waders but ended up not having to wade, although the bank was quite squelchy in places. Didn't take the camera, due to the risk of immersion, so just a phone blip. The guys on the left are standing on the same level as the HB roots, so you can see how tall it is!
In the evening we had a visit from two of D''s Inchcolm colleagues - very nice to see them, but if/when D will be forming a work 'bubble' with them is still unknown.
