The one that got away

Creeping out on a foggy morning along the east coast of The Lizard.

A fish each for Alex and me under the cliffs. Then the fog cleared and we made our way out to a place further offshore that is nothing more than a subtle bulge in the contours on the chart.

Just after we arrived Alex's rod hooped over. It looked like a good fish was on the end. Then the rod bent almost round under the kayak and span the boat around. The fish showed no sign of slowing down... Not long after, a shout of 'I'm running out of line' and then - ping - the line dropped slack and we had the rest of the day to speculate...

Best guess, perhaps a small tuna? Seemed like everywhere was full of schools of sardines; the delayed 'whump' of diving gannets and frothing of sardines on the surface were the main soundtrack to the day.
