A bit damp
Out walking this morning I got drenched in what the forecast optimistically called a ‘shower’. More like a deluge.
I was too wet to take photos. So instead this is from our outback trip in August 2010. We were driving to a friend’s property way out in the north west corner of NSW. There had been rain, so we called ahead to ask about the state of the dirt road into the property. ‘It’s a bit damp’ we were told.
Well, it was so ‘damp’ that we got bogged. We were lucky. There aren’t many cars on that road and we could have been there for hours. Fortunately a local came past, who turned out to be the cousin of another friend of ours. He pulled us out backwards, using our snatch strap. (It’s always wise to carry rescue gear so that, if you need help, your helpers don’t have to unpack their own gear.)
It just goes to show, ‘damp’ is a relative term.
