Well , it was absolutely wild here at the NY AOG today ! We have never seen such a great turnout for the Pollen Grab Event! The Honeybees were the favorites to win and they showed up all wings flying. They were out -pollened though by their smaller cousins - the small carpenter bees who took the event by virtue of sheer numbers. They were so busy flying around grabbing all the pollen they could get that our intrepid photographer could not even get a decent photo of the winners ! The Squash Bees showed up but came in a poor 4th. ( in extras)
The real excitement of this race were the wasps. They were not expected to make the cut and get past the semis- but here they are! Unfortunately for them as solitary wasps they were a team of 1 and just couldn't compete with the overwhelming carpenter bees! Team 4Toothed Mason Wasp ( today's lead photo) and Team Golden Digger Wasp cut quite a swath through the crowded field of contestants though and the audience loved it! (see the extras)
There were a few touchy moments though. Team green Sweat Bee refused to take the field here at Summersweet Stadium. The ugly rumor is they stung the referee when they found out that the event had been moved here from Hydrangea Stadium due to poor flowering there.
One of the Skipper team had to be redirected to the correct stadium when it showed up here for the wrong event! Let's hope it made it to the Butterfly Bush for its event on time!
And the badboys of the AOG - Team Yellowjacket- showed up briefly and tried to bully their way into the finals . But as luck would have it they were distracted by the Sugar Bar and spent the rest of the afternoon harassing Team Hummer. These guys seem to be causing havoc in all the AOG sites across the country.
Well, no mistake it was another exciting day here at the AOG. Can't wait to see what tomorrow's events will bring . Good night and stay safe!
