Beamish
We have had a grand day out today courtesy of our friends from the north, Ron and Ian. Our Christmas gift from them was two vouchers to the Beamish Living Heritage Museum in County Durham.
We originally intended to come in April but of course that wasn’t possible. They reopened in late July for timed entry bookings so we booked today at 11.00 am.
We met up with our friends inside and made straight for the 1900’s town street. (blip) The main attraction seemed to be the
Confectionary (sweetie) shop for which there was a queue but generally it wasn’t too busy.
They are currently developing a 1950’s town which only has the Welfare Hall finished and open and where we were able to get a coffee.
Later we got some lunch in the 1900’s mining village, I particularly liked looking around the village school and the miners cottages before we went up to the 1940’s farm.
A great place to spend a day, we were there over 5 hours even though some attractions are not open or are restricted due to Covid 19. The biggest thing missing are the trams. Having used our vouchers for entry we now get 12 months unlimited admission so hopefully we can come back when they are back in use.
The weather has been warm and pleasant and it’s looking pretty good in Scotland too where the family are now at the ‘wee hoose’ or ‘Little House by the Sea’ as Eda calls it after a book given to her by me from Mull.
She really is Eda the intrepid, she has been out in the sea on a paddle board with daddy today!
