versailles

It’s not straightforward finding somewhere to do a stop off during a pandemic. Eve would have loved to go to Paris but that felt a bit daft so we opted for Versailles. We got tickets to go in at 9am - deeply uncomfortable in masks but worth it to learn more about France’s incredible history and eccentric royal history. And then we spent hours in the gardens, enjoying dancing fountains. We eventually made our way to the grande Trianon and Marie Antoinette’s rural hamlet (built as an escape from her terribly stressful life). The Trianon was built for Louis XIV to entertain his mistress but despite its questionable history, it was right up my street style-wise. Far less gaudy than the main palace. And the gardens are divine.

Gratefuls:

1. Antony organising this lovely stop off;
2. Isaac and Zeke being delighted by the train which took us round the gardens;
3. Eve imagining a bright new life as a French royal - she’ll need to work hard to undo the revolution mind.
