Snowy pots at sunrise
Nothing like a fresh layer of 30 cm or so of snow to bring dead silence on a Saturday morning. The only sound breaking the spell were the hammerings of several woodpeckers in the trees along the ravine. Quite tranquil. The sun had just broke from the horizon and was poking through the trees as I cleared the snow of the tables and benches to put out some birdseed and peanuts when the herb pots caught my eye in the warm light. Also notable was the horizontal shadows and the shadow at right cast by an identical pot set.
Ah...as I write this the birds have come to feast. Mourning doves, a blue jay, a downy woodpecker, a hairy woodpecker some juncos, and the first of many squirrels - a young black one from a Fall litter.
