Bread and Music

After blipping last night, I lay in the bath for an hour listening to Andrea Bocelli. I hadn't really listened to him until last weekend, when on Saturday evening a Live DVD was on in the restaurant whilst we were eating. He has the most beautiful voice, but more so, his persona on stage - so unassuming and beautifully tender with the audience and his guests - is so touching. I was very much taken with the song Time to say goodbye, particularly because his interaction with Sarah Brightman is just so personal - beautiful to watch and to listen too - play it loud. Awesome.

Whilst digging around the internet to purchase the DVD today, I came across a number of clips and this one - Andrea Bocelli sings Elmo to sleep ...just so lovely! - ...make sure you know the song from the link above first, then watch this one....made me smile.

Conversations in the bath last night were music focussed - largely around time signatures in music, following a programme on tv we saw where I found out that "Money" by Pink Floyd is in a really unusual signature - 7/4 time ...you can count it too - and once you have, I challenge you NOT to do it every time you hear it (start with 1 on the first note of the classic bass riff ...dum dum de dum dum dum dum....there's your 7 - god I am so sad).

All of this musical madness I think was prompted by a conversation with my Dad yesterday afternoon who informed me that he had been trying to choose 3 songs for his own funeral (strange conversation to be having I know!) and that it was very difficult. He challenged me to do the same - I've been thinking about it a lot since...its a difficult thing to do. Dad also informs me that he is compiling a list of tracks that can be made into CD's for people after he has gone ....kind of "Music to remember Dad by"....quote "When I've gone, if you go to my computer there will be a playlist with all of the tracks on for after I've died". This wasn't a depressing conversation I have to add...it was quite intriguing. And death is inevitable so its best to plan for it in some way.

I told Corin about this, and he announced to me that he wanted to be cremated, in a cardboard box then his ashes scattered ...some in Pembroke, some in Spain and some on Everest...doesn't want much then!!!

This morning got up early (for me on a Saturday 0 10 am - after not getting to sleep until 2.30 because Corin and I were chatting away), downloaded Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, Ravel's Bolero and Barber's Adagio for Strings this morning, then spent 3 hours in the kitchen making bread, preparing beef in red wine and humming along to my classical haul! I have to say - the bread has come out beautifully (I used honey to activate the yeast instead of sugar - the yeast went MENTAL) and the bread dough was double proved, for over an hour each time - its lovely and light and soft, but with just the right amount of crust too. We have 6 of the bread rolls between us for lunch, still warm, with Cornish Brie....yum yum.

I'm feeling distinctly chilled out. Which is progress from the stress of yesterday :-)
