Crazy world
We were warned not to become complacent. We were told that it's not a case of if, but a case of when we get our next community transmitted COVID case. I never expected it to arrive so soon after I opted to discontinue recording the daily stats after 100 days without community transmission. Today would have been day 102.
At a little before 9.30pm this evening there was an unscheduled and unexpected media conference. The announcement by the PM that 4 members of the same family from South Auckland had tested positive for COVID was a shock. At this stage there are no clues as to where it was picked up and with the threat of a significant community outbreak the decision has been made to move Auckland to a Level 3 lockdown ie pretty much everything except 'essential services' must close. It's a short lockdown - at the moment - just 3 days. Time will tell whether this will be enough. The rest of the country has been raised to Alert level 2.
So, after a day of zeros yesterday, today's COVID count is 5 new cases - 1 in managed isolation and 4 of unknown origin. With no recoveries, the active case total is now 26.
