Slimbridge
We knew it was going to be another scorcher so we took off early for Slimbidge, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust centre. We took a walk along the estuary pathway, which disappointingly you cannot see the river due to the built up flood defenses, but eventually reached a viewpoint just past Sir Peter Scott's original hide, a converted WW2 lookout bunker.
On return we went to the top of the Estuary Tower at the centre, luckily, for me, they do have a lift. We then took a look at the various lakes and ponds including, of course, the flamingos, finishing up at Discovery Hide where I took these photos. I'm not sure if it is a young Avocet or something else, no doubt someone will know!
After a spot of lunch on a shady bench we had a quick look at the otter pool, they were sheltering from the sun too presumably as we didn't see any, then a last look at the flamingos before heading back to the car, the temperature reading in the car was 38° C.
We spent the afternoon at the cottage not doing much, but will probably get out for an evening walk when, if, the temperature lowers.
