Wine tasting on the Mission Peninsula

Saturday August 1st
This morning, Roger and I went out for a Nature walk around a nearby lake, (see extra) while Laura stayed in to get some more work done, we picked her up around noon, then drove to the Mission Peninsula, a long thin peninsula jutting out into the lake near Traverse City, and which is well known for its wineries. The first one we visited was Chateau Chantal, located in a beautiful setting atop a hill affording gorgeous views over East and West Grand Traverse Bays. They had a very good set up - you could order a flight of three taster sizes in a special carrier, which you then took out on their spacious patio. The wine they sell is predominantly white - we did try one of the reds but didn’t like it. The right lower two pictures we’re taken at Mari Vineyards, which also enjoyed a good view. The patio was already reserved, but they had a large grassy slope where you could take a blanket or towels to sit on. In the evening we ate in Traverse City, where they have cordoned off one of the main streets to traffic, allowing the restaurants to spill out onto the street, affording more outdoor seating. A very enjoyable day for our last day - tomorrow we drive home.
