Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

It’s a hot one!

Thunder and lightening and heavy rain for much of the night, but the day dawned calm and warm.

We dropped Archie off at the crèche about 7.30. It only takes 15 minutes to drive there, but they do offer a pick up/drop off service (Bark ‘n’ Ride), which we may use some days.

This doggie-free day is to be used for, say, going on bike rides, but not yet, though it would have been a smashing day for a ride by the sea (Cramond, not Porty).

My knight in shining armour, Sam, came round and attached the shorter pedal thingies. I could lower the seat about a couple of inches, and YES! I can put the tips of my toes on the ground while sitting! Then we tested the pedalling, and the knee bend was quite tight, but I think I will be able to manage it. Sam later looked online and sent me a link for the correct part, so it’s ordered, coming tomorrow. I’ve been along to the shop to book the bike in on Friday. All good.

Meanwhile, we went off into town, in search of a coffee, or possibly lunch, with a view, and we got the best one. The balcony at Harvey Nick’s. We hadn’t booked, but snared an outside table before the lunch crowd. We haven’t been there since the day I retired, 10 years ago.

By this time it was Very Hot, so we then sat in the park and watched a wee daschund paddling round and round in the water feature - it was just his depth. Very cute. (Extra)

JR was picking up a delivery in a shop, but as we came along, my bus and I arrived at the stop at the same time. This cannot be resisted, so I hopped on it and came home. I spent the afternoon in the shade in the back garden, listening to a podcast about Jane Goodall. Fascinating.

We’ve been to pick Archie up, and he’s had several huge drinks of water, an early tea, and is now flat out, dog tired. He didn’t say much about his day, but we’ll see his reaction when we take him there again next week.
