Wakehurst

Our last day in Sussex - and the hottest yet. 

We chose to visit Wakehurst - a 500 acre woodland owned by the National Trust but managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. It is home to the Millennium Seed bank, a growing collection of seeds from around the world, aiming to provide a safety net for species at risk of extinction.  The woodland is wilder and more natural than the Botanic gardens at Kew, with trees and plants grouped according to the parts of the world from which they come.  It is a very peaceful and beautiful site, on a hilly location which provides a variety of views through and over the trees.

My blip is of the Westwood Lake in the "Wetlands" area of the gardens, an area which I found particularly attractive.

Walking around in near 36C heat was rather exhausting and we rewarded ourselves with a cold drink and an ice cream before setting off for home.  It will be another warm night.

Another back-blip as I was too relaxed to blip while we were away!
