My sister and i measured heights, worked out ramp length to height for a 1in6 slope, and were excessively pleased to find the total height doorway to ground at front and back doors was the same so we would only need one portable ramp.

Except...

The front door step is an elegant and spacious 1.23 metre deep so the 6ft ramp could not reach across it to rest on the ground. Basic geometry, all forgotten! The solution (i phoned the Ramp People) was an unliftably heavy 10ft ramp, or two wee 3 footers. Which we ordered.

The 6ft ramp, and the rubber threshold ramps we also bought for inside the house, have transformed Dad's journeys room to room, whether under his own steam or in the wheelchair.
