The Old Forge (Friday 14th August 2020)

A much cooler, fresher day with thundery showers and not much light, so a quickly snatched shot of these fox and cubs (Pilosella aurantiaca) growing in the vine patch outside the woodland garden. I know them as fox and cubs but they have a variety of common names: devil's paintbrush, grim-the-collier, orange hawk bit, Flora's paintbrush, golden mouse ear, missionary weed, orange-flowered hawkweed among them.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Toumani Diabaté - Cantelowes  (2002)
The guest on Desert Island Discs was Maria Bolshaw, the Director of Tate, and apart from choosing Gram and Emmylou's much superior version of Love Hurts, a big favourite with me, she also introduced me to Ennio Morricone's The Good, The Bad And The Ugly as interpreted and extrapolated by Toumani Diabaté. It comes from his album The Mandé Variations.
