Bye bye beardie

'Moving on' is in the air and the time has come for Sam's bearded dragon, Spyro to move on too.  We've had him for 5 years, since Sam's 13th birthday.Today we gave his vivarium a good clean, cut his toe nails, whispered reassurances and gave him lots of cuddles.

Happily Sam has found a family with an 11 year old boy who really wants a beardie and we think that is a better solution than keeping him with us whilst Sam is at university.  

Sam has loved him and cared for him really well.  He has certainly been more successful than Chewy (an 11th birthday present) that lived up to it's name.

Despite being easy in every other way beardies can live for a long time (up to 12 years and well beyond a child's interest span) and are very expensive to feed.  A hamster lives for about 2...

We are very fortunate to have found another family to look after him and who may even keep Sam up to date with how he's doing.  They will pick him up tomorrow.
