Women, Love and Self-Care
Friday and Saturday I undertook a one credit course titled "Women, Love and Self-Care which was taught by Roslyn Farrington (pictured) who was quite an amazing professor (I'm not sucking up). "Roslyn has been a faculty member at the univesity Women's Studies Department since 2002. She holds a Master's degree in Education, a BA in English, and Certificates in Women's Studies and Black Studies. Additionally, she ha a wealth of experience which includes: serving as executive director of the Oregon Commission for Women and over 20 years experience working with government, non-profits, legislature and boards of commisions. Her mission is based on the philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. which is to build beloved community - a community based on unconditional love, where all people have a voice."
The course was demanding, but not in the traditional academic sense, in that it involved self-reflection. It was challenging for me at times to discuss intimate information with strangers; however, Roslyn created a safe, warm, respectful, supporive and nurturing environment where learning could take place for all. For this experience, I am grateful.
Prior to completion of the course today, the class practiced positive affirmations. I selelcted one and created another affirmation which I will practice the next week as part of my course work. The are listed below.
"With an open heart I joyfully embrace the lesson of being grateful for all things"
I have no foes, only spiritual guides
