Treasure!

I know this looks like a few random rolls of canvas, but it’s millinery treasure! I did my first ‘big trip’ since lockdown and went and collected some ‘espartiere’  an old millinery blocking fabric, which is quite difficult to get hold of. I’m theoretically doing an introductory course at rearranged London hat week in October.

I bought it on eBay, and as I noticed it was in Newmarket, asked I could  collect and the lady said would I be interested in any other materials as she was retiring from making for making hats for other people. She used to work for a prestigious milliner in London, and I have an absolute boot full of material. She even gifted me some boxes, and some ‘visor leather’ which I have no idea how to use!

It was quite a treacherous journey with heavy showers, but definitely worth it. 

I missed my turning and ended up driving through the centre of Newmarket which was a sobering experience as so many shops on the Main Street had closed.
